Impacts

The College has transformed the lives of students and provided them with meaning, sense of purpose and gainful employment over the course of a decade. The numbers capture the spread, reach and impact the college has had on its direct stakeholders.

The first batch of 72 students got trained in 2008-09 and a total of Fourteen batches have completed education at SVRCC by July 2022.

Since inception the College has provided top quality education and career openings to over 3,500 + students.More than 90% of our graduates are gainfully employed or running their own businesses. Some are pursuing higher education. Around 65+ students are self-employed and an equal number are employed overseas. Our students are the finest examples of SVRCC’s impact. SVRCC students have also become agents of change in their families and communities.

From the thatched-roof shed in which the classes were conducted for the first 5 batches, SVRCC has grown to a full-fledged College with two state-of-the-art buildings with classrooms and workshops, a goshala within the campus with a9 member bovine family of cows and calves, and a City Centre in Puducherry for short-term courses in Tally for employed professionals.

SVRCC prides itself on the fact that, of the funds collected from socially conscious donors and patrons, more than 95% goes towards the primary purpose of the College, of education and employment; and less than 5% is spent on administrative expenses.

The Parents

Before joining the college my son was meek and full of doubts. After completing the course he has courage and focus. He owes it to the college. What I personally like about this college is they teach good skills and self-discipline. The Director, the Principal and the faculty gave their support to my son throughout the academic year. The college has a large library, indoor and outdoor games for the students to play. The functions and parent-teacher meetings are very useful to us. I will do whatever I can to help this institution grow.

My son was an average student and a timid boy before he joined the college. But after completing the course and taking up a job he has completely turned around. The authorities here run the college extremely well. Life coping skills, work skills taught by the faculties have helped my son to improve. He has learnt self-discipline taught to him with love and kindness. This college has made my son a good automobile mechanic. We will help the college according to our strength.

My son had no clarity or enthusiasm for anything. But now he is focused, has good habits and shows varied interest in life. He owes it to the college. The college imparts good lessons, teaches self-discipline and moulds youth into likeable characters. My son had lost hope after failing in 10th board examinations, but got his life back from this college. They charge low fees and have great infrastructure. The Director and the Principal handle the children in a loving way. The teachers follow effective teaching methods using computer and projector. The parent teacher meetings are useful to us.

My nephew Dinesh lost his parents when he was 12. I struggled to educate Dinesh. He failed his 10th board exams. And I was afraid for his life. That is when I admitted him in this college after hearing from students in my village. And now he is well- placed in life. The Director’s compassion, the teaching methodology and the curriculum have helped him immensely. His teacher has been a source of profound moral support. I will help out the future admissions in the college.

My son lacked motivation and was a below average student. He failed his board examination. But now he works as an automobile mechanic in a private shop. I am very happy. He has learnt skills and values. The teachers here take care of the children like their own kids. They teach confidence, self-discipline and self-esteem, which are of great value to poor people like us. The parent-teacher meeting every year is of great use to us.

I am Selvi, mother of Balamurugan. My son had developed many unsavoury habits due to bad company. Only after joining the college he has dropped these and acquired technical and life skills. Now he is fine. He has done his Diploma in Automobile Mechanism and is undergoing presently industrial training. The college faculty are highly supportive. I like the level of interaction between parents and teachers. This college has all the necessary facilities such as purified water service, good computer lab, facility for indoor + outdoor games and spacious library. Audio visual teaching aids are highly effective. The job they get for the children is a great financial support. I will do my best for future admissions. I will help the college in whatever ways I can.

I admitted my daughter through my nephew. She used to get upset often and is poor in anger management. She succeeded in 12th board examination however due to financial constraints she could not pursue further studies. Upon joining this college she has learnt good and healthy habits, respect for others and self-esteem. In short she has gained control over herself. It is a source of great relief and pride for me. The Director and the Principal are like father and mother for these poor kids. But more than anything else I like the fact that students here not only get educated but also employed.

My son had a fearful temper and laziness when it came to studying. So he failed his board examination. I feared for his future. Now I am confident that his future his secure. The Director and his teachers are a great moral support to our son. They teach discipline and good habits lovingly. Now my son is respected and has started teaching others about what life skills are. I am keen to help this college.

My daughter had a habit of losing her temper quite often. She was also quite introverted. She succeeded in 12th board examination. However she could not pursue further studies owing to financial constraints. The college has helped her overcome her deficiencies and gain control over self. Life-skill lessons have improved the quality of her thought and emotions. The Director and the Principal play the vital role of godparents for the children. Parent teacher meetings are an especially innovative feature of this college. We attend meetings with great enthusiasm and invariably return with a good learning.

The Students

After failing in my 10th board examinations, I took to roaming the town with my friends. Despite the brave-face attitude, I really feared for my future. Joining this college was a watershed moment in my life. The lessons imparted in the college helped me turn over. I followed the words of my mentors: the Principal and the Director, in word and spirit and found myself changing for good. Now I can say with certainty that I am a social person. The employment opportunity that they create for us that really is the crown of their effort. Now I work as mechanic earning Rs 4,000 pm. Going forward I shall learn the trade and enhance my career and life. I will support my College with whatever monetary and other help necessary and possible.

D Karthik (2012-13)

I heard about this college from my brother. I passed my 12th standard examinations. But I couldn’t afford engineering and joined this college. I am a bad-tempered person. My College’s yoga and life skill lessons have helped me put my life in order. The words and deeds of the Principal and the Director resonate deeply with the chord of love in the heart of students. The cultural events in the college never failed to delight me. My dream project is to build a house of my own and take care of my family. And in due course, lend a helping hand to this project.

K Rajesh (2012-13)

My uncle informed me about this college. I was a rather timid person before joining the college and hardly a good student. The sound moral support and physical regime followed in the institution deeply impacted me. The Principal and the Director acted as catalyst of change in our inner lives. The levels of my self-esteem and confidence have soared. And everything I know about automobiles I owe to my trainers, who trained me with a lot of patience. In future I shall shine as the leading mechanic in Pondicherry.

R Dinkaran (2013-14)

I learnt about SVRCC through my friends. Failing in 10th standard was a big blow to my self-esteem. I began to fear a great deal for my future. All that changed when I stepped into SVRCC. The loving kindness of my Director and Principal realigned the stars that ruled my life for good. Now I can say that I am changed person, physically, mentally and socially. The library is one of the places in the college that is close to my heart. Where there were fears, now there are dreams. I want to know everything about automobiles and become an accomplished automobile mechanic. And one last word: I promise to help the college in whatever way possible.

N Dinkaran (2012-13)

I don’t have a mother. My grandma raised me up; and she is also the one who put me here. The Director and the Principal Madam looked after me as if I were one of their own kids. I studied here under sponsorship because even the meagre fee was not affordable. After I completed the course I joined PIMS as a nurse and now I draw Rs 20,000 as salary each month. Now I am sure of my future, having forgotten much of the past pains. I am now married and have a child. My husband is an electrician. My in-laws treat me well and I am happy. I am fearless about what fate may throw at me. I got this confidence at the College, where I participated in many co-curricular activities and won big time. Every day I think of my time in the College. I am staying at my mother-in-law’s place and get much respect for what I do. I can say unequivocally that I owe it all to SVRCC!
